Ceramic tile murals
A exceptional pair of unique vibrant glazed murals of Fine Art quality with abstracted cubist designs of figures and tribal symbols. These panels are attributed to the southern French ceramic town of Vallauris near Cannes and certainly the distinctive crimson red glaze and the characteristic chocolate brown of the clay body bear all the hallmarks of their production. The right panel depicts a heavily abstracted central figure surrounded by crocodile motifs. The left hand panel shows a group of figures and heads in profile with a central female form with baby. |

The style is a dazzling mixture of playful cubist Picasso influences and it is interesting that he produced much of his early ceramic sculptures at factories in the Vallauris region. Mounted on original wooden boards with stretchers and steel hooks. They are exceptionally heavy and would need careful mounting. French, 1960s. 51 cm wide, 130 cm tall each.
