Bonad
A rare Swedish 'bonad' Folk Art painting on canvas. Depicting scenes from the Bible, the Annunciation, The Adoration of the Magi, the garden of Gethsemane and the Betrayal of Jesus. It is full of charming details such as the smiling baby Jesus overlooked by ox and ass and the Roman guards depicted in Swedish period dress of long tailed coats and top hats with a stable lantern. Although care worn and damaged the natural pigments shine out with ochres, rust reds and blues. Historically mounted on hardboard, this item would benefit greatly from sympathetic framing.
