Carved horn beaker
An unusual 19th century carved horn beaker depicting a famous play 'Paul Pry', a farce written by John Poole and featuring an interfering busy-body character who conveniently mislays his umbrella. This beautifully drawn example features a group of guests around a tea table and Pry himself lurking behind a curtain gazing at a woman reclining reclining on a chaise longue. Of particular interest is the depiction of an early ceiling gas light. I cannot identify Charolotte White as a character within the play. In good general condition with age cracks and minor wear and tear. English, 1850. 9.5 cm high.
