Cesar Baggard walnut box
A fine early 18th century relief carved walnut box attributed to or in the style of Cesar Baggard. The relief carved sides feature scrolled acanthus leaves and forget-me-not flowers, shells, drapes and dragons on a stipled ground. The lid features a Renaissance style figure composition. The whole is carved on a carcass of walnut. Richly patiniated with an original varnished surface. There is a small section of restoration to the moulding on the lid see photo.
