Icelandic knife
A rare and unusual whale bone knife from Iceland. With distinctive scalloped handle and lobed decoration in shallow relief to one side, carved from a single piece with a fine blade chamfered to both sides. Showing signs of age and wear with a gentle honeyed patination this remained a mystery object until a chance encounter at Stockholm's Nordic Museum revealed its true purpose as an ice scraper. Late 19th century. Not suitable for export. 43 cm long. K21.7 BOK £475 If you are interested in this item please email [email protected] or in the UK ring 079 6819 6668. |
