Lead wool weight
An interesting medieval shield shaped wool weight, heavily corroded and scratched by the plough, this rare find features a crown above a fleur de lys and probably commemorates the Florentine wool trade with monastic settlements in Yorkshire. The town of Malton was a main trading hub for this export and the town museum has several comparative examples. 14th or 15th century. 9 cm long.
