A rare survivor. An early 19th century Swedish purse or 'pocket'. Though in delicate and slightly damaged condition the purse remains intact with olive green and red abstract design of felted fabric applied to a black background, with a line of metallic thread running around the applique edge. The reverse side is probably reindeer hide and is attached to a decorated brass opener. Helsingland, circa 1800.
